Senate Bill 237–Anti-SLAPP
Effective Date: April 9, 2025
Protects media, advocacy organizations, and survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault from costly, lengthy, and often meritless defamation litigation.
House Bill 111–Increased Sentencing for 3rd Degree Felony DV
Effective Date: March 19, 2025
Increases third-degree felony offenses to a “higher-tier” sentencing range and creates a presumption in favor for a prison term for third-degree felony domestic violence.
Senate Bill 100–Prohibit Installation of Tracking Devices
Effective Date: March 19, 2025
Establishes a new statute that prohibits a person from knowingly installing a tracking device without consent.
House Bill 161–Closing Spousal Rape Loophole
Effective Date: August 10, 2024
Married survivors of sexually oriented offenses (rape, sexual battery, sexual imposition, etc.) will now be able to pursue criminal charges and protection orders based off the sexual violence.
Married survivors will also be able to testify against their spouses in prosecutions of these crimes.
Senate Bill 90–Social Work Licensure Compact
Effective Date: August 10, 2024
Ohio will join the Social Work Licensure Compact–joining Kansas, Missouri, South Dakota, Utah, Washinton, Kentucky and Virginia.
These states will form a Commission to govern the compact and eventually allow social workers to practice in each other’s jurisdictions.
