November Youth Advocacy Caucus Meeting
On Tuesday, November 30th, from 1 -3 pm, join fellow advocates across the state for rich conversation and networking as our fall youth caucus meeting will showcase three speakers. ODVN is pleased to shine the light on two of Ohio’s advocates and member programs, along with updating you on ODVN’s newest resources. Our topics will include:
• Karen Montgomery from the DV Shelter in Mansfield. Karen will present her group work activities for youth called “Financial Empowerment with Youth: Social and Emotional Learning.” Karen created this program during her AmeriCorp service. She will weave in aspects “teaching” youth about finances within the context of social and emotional learning.
• Alyssa Norman from Someplace Safe in Warren will share successful tips on accessing McKinney Vento services for youth and their education while residing in a shelter or hotel program. Alyssa will offer practical ways to engage your McKinney Vento liaisons to bolster youth’s educational experiences. Understanding and utilizing McKinney Vento federally funded services are essential to serving families as they navigate safety while youth receive an education. • Sonia Ferencik from ODVN will share five trauma-informed and resiliency-focused posters along with eight family groups designed to enhance your program’s activities to support youth and their parent amid their experiences of trauma, loss, and change. You will receive pdf resources including 8 Family Circles Group Work; 5 Posters for Shelter and Community Partners; Play, Move, Imagine: I Matter! I Belong (Youth Journal); ODVN’s Prevention Virtual Site: Support in Stressful Times featuring ZENworks Yoga.
ASL interpreters will be attending our youth caucus meeting.
