Justice Systems Advocacy (Day 2, Morning Session)

This two-day training focuses on working within the civil and criminal justice systems in partnership with survivors of domestic violence. Experts with extensive experience will provide information about the realities of navigating the court system for victims of domestic violence. The training focuses on the civil legal system and remedies developed for victims including extensive learning and discussion about civil protection orders.

Other topics include Ohio domestic violence criminal law, how the criminal system and process work, and what protections are available to survivors. You will learn effective ways to advocate for victims involved with the criminal justice system and work with survivors who are charged with crimes. This training provides an understanding of the implications of having both a criminal and civil domestic violence case through the court system.

Trainers: Bernadette Rieger, ODVN Legal Assistance Program Director; Micaela Deming, Esq., ODVN Staff Attorney and Policy Director; Nancy Grigsby, M.S., ODVN Consultant; and James D. Miller, Esq., Attorney, Buckley King LPA.

CEUs: To obtain 11 CEUs, you are required to attend both days of training and complete an evaluation form for each day.
