Teen
Dating Violence Awareness Month Ideas
ODVN joins groups, communities and the country in observing
February as Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month.
- Here in Ohio with the recent passage of HB 19, the Tina Croucher
Act, there is renewed commitment to provide resources to programs and
support efforts promoting healthy dating relationships. Click
Here for more information from ODVN on HB 19.
- Give yourself the best tools available. ODVN has compiled a list of
activities utilized by other groups during past Teen Dating Violence
Awareness Weeks. Click Here
to view the list. VAWnet is offering great free downloadable resources
in special collection, Preventing and Responding to Teen Dating Violence,
with updated information for young people, parents and care takers,
men and boys, teachers and school-based professionals, health care professionals,
and domestic violence and sexual violence service providers. It also
provides links to a variety of awareness campaigns, many with free cards,
posters, and other items. Click
Here to visit the Vawnet web site.
- Give the young people in your life a more meaningful Valentine’s
Day, the gift of respect at www.giverespect.org,
and then a nice little bling to go with it from www.peace-love-bling.com.
Okay and maybe a little something for you too! See below.
- Peace Love Bling, designers of empowered jewelry, is partnering with
ODVN to add a little extra sparkle to February while raising much needed
funds that support the organization’s policy, training and advocacy
efforts aimed at protecting teens and promoting peaceful relationships.
Peace Love Bling will donate $50 for every Home Trunk Show scheduled
in February that takes place before March 15. They will donate 10% of
the proceeds of these trunk shows, as well.
Peace Love Bling designs support women business owners and artists
as well as causes that help disadvantaged women find stability and
dignity for themselves and their families. ODVN and Peace Love Bling
have set a goal of scheduling ten trunk shows for Teen Dating Violence
Awareness Month. Trunk shows are casual get-togethers in a home or
office with 5 or more guests. They can be hosted at lunch, evenings
or weekends. They’re also great for bridal showers or birthday
parties. Hosts may want to invite teens to shop (check out the Hope
bracelets suitable guys or girls) and offer awareness materials while
you’ve got their interest.
In addition to helping ODVN raise money, hosts receive an automatic
$50 credit toward jewelry purchases plus additional credit based on
the outcome of the party- 10% if the party earns $100, $500, or 15%
if the party earns $501+. Hosts can also earn an additional $50 credit
for each party which results from their trunk show. The average trunk
show earns the host over $125 in free jewelry. Trunk shows can be
scheduled anywhere in the State of Ohio. Student or school organizations
are also welcome to contact Peace Love Bling to arrange for their
own fundraising sales. Visit www.peace-love-bling.com
or call 614-947-0184.
