National trainer, researcher, and expert Dr. Larry Bennett from the University of Illinois in Chicago leads this training on the very complicated, complex topic of substance abuse and domestic violence. People have a lot of questions around substance use and battering. How does the use of substance impact domestic violence? Do people become abusive because of alcohol or other drugs? How do we, as professionals working with individuals who both abuse substances and batter, help support people in both sobriety and in not using violence in their relationships? Come to this conference to learn about the links and connections between substance use and domestic violence, ways in which substances are used in abusive relationships, and the role that traumatic experiences can play in substance use. Come for this unique opportunity to learn with others on this critically important topic.
